Minimum Technical Requirements

To be approved for publication, all videos must meet the following minimum technical standards:
  • Minimum resolution: 1280 x 720 (720p HD)
  • Recommended resolution: 1920 x 1080 (1080p Full HD)
  • File format: MP4
  • Maximum file size: 1GB per video

In addition, all videos must include:
  • Clear and stable video capture
  • Good lighting that ensures visibility
  • Minimal background distractions
  • High-quality screen recordings for technical content
  • Audio that is synced correctly with the video

Common Video Issues to Avoid

Avoiding the following issues helps ensure a smooth, distraction-free learning experience:
  • Blurry or pixelated footage due to low resolution or poor focus
  • Dark or uneven lighting, making it hard to see the instructor or visuals
  • Distracting backgrounds with clutter or movement
  • Shaky camera footage from handheld devices
  • Slides or screen recordings that are difficult to read
  • Audio that is not in sync with the video

Content Presentation Standards

Your video content should look and feel professional, even with a simple setup. Aim to:
  • Use a clean, professional background
  • Ensure instructor visibility - your face and upper body should be clearly framed
  • Include clear demonstrations, whether you're using slides, screens, or physical props
  • Add supporting graphics or visuals to enhance explanations and illustrate key points

Best Practices for Recording

You don’t need a professional studio to meet the academy’s standards. Here are some practical tips for instructors:

1. Use the Best Camera Available

A built-in webcam, smartphone camera, or basic external webcam can all work. Ensure the camera produces a sharp image, and clean the lens before recording.

2. Optimize Your Lighting

Natural light is great - sit facing a window for even lighting. If recording at night, use a desk lamp with soft light aimed at your face. Avoid backlighting that casts shadows.

3. Keep Your Camera Steady

Place your laptop or phone on a stable surface or use a tripod. Keep the camera at eye level to maintain good posture and natural eye contact.

4. Create a Neutral Recording Environment

Choose a quiet, uncluttered space. A plain wall, curtain, or tidy bookshelf works well. Eliminate movement, pets, or noise in the background.

5. Frame Yourself Consistently

Position your camera to show your head and shoulders. Leave a little space above your head and keep your eyes about one-third from the top of the screen.

6. Share Your Screen Thoughtfully

If you’re recording slides or software, use clear visuals, large fonts, and minimize distractions. Tools like Loom, OBS Studio, or Zoom can help capture your screen effectively.

Editing Standards

Clean and consistent editing brings your content to life. All videos should include:
  • Clean transitions between sections or topics
  • Professional-quality graphics when applicable
  • Consistent branding, such as using the same fonts, colors, or intro screens across all videos
  • High-quality screen captures that are easy to read and support your narration

Even free tools like Clipchamp, Shotcut, iMovie, or Canva can help you apply these elements with ease.
